chess24 round 6 report
After 18.Nxc5!? bxc5 19.Rxc5 Black has excellent compensation for the pawn.

Hans instead began to switch to attacking on the kingside with 18.Nh4!?, with Ray summing up his opponent’s approach as, “I think also he just wanted to complicate things as much as possible, make me burn time and then just flag me!”

20.Qh5!? was another attacking lunge when White could have switched to quiet positional play, and soon a deeply flawed attack would follow. Hans spent just two and a half minutes to push his f2-pawn all the way to f6.

And meanwhile Aronian isn't having a great time of things here, is he.

He isn't, is he? I don't know whether there still being 7 rounds to go is good or bad in that regard. Time to recover, time to, um, not recover? :?

It was an exact duplicate of a bullet game played four years ago:

and Black resigned.

Moradiabadi doesn't really play the Petroff as I could only find one game of his with it. Guess he was trying to catch his opponent in an opening he didn't expect but playing an opening you clearly don't know that well against a 2747 is asking for it.

In other news from round 7, Swiercz beat Niemann and Ray against So sees the lower-rated player (Ray) three pawns down but apparently with a winning attack (currently at move 23), though I am a bit suspicious of the Stockfish assessment there. If Ray wins and Caruana draws, then Ray will be only a half-point off the lead.

EDIT: Eswaran, who has had a poor tournament up to now, should beat Abrahamyan shortly.
It was even poorer before they mullered Zatonskih in the previous round tbf.
Another win for her tonight.

Two minutes for seventeen moves for Morris-Suzuki

Absolutely stuffed him, in fact. All going a bit pear shaped for Hans now.

Caruana said the security is far better in the US Champs than it was for the first 3 rounds of the Sinquefield Cup.

Regarding the 10 move game. It was played OTB in Hoogeveen in 2011.

Black, winning two minor pieces for their lowly Queen, played on. Which is how you must look at it and actually rejoices in the fact you have a lost game. Dave Smerdon goes into this in detail in his 'Swindles.' Relax, enjoy yourself, think up silly two movers, you have nothing to lose because you are already losing. Then citing examples. (good book)

Caruana says that winging it against Domínguez, partucularly, was unwise
