I think that the listing is in Seeding Number order.

Usually you would defend by parking the King on g7 or h7 and check the King from the first rank.
Neither David Howell nor Conor Murphy play
So, David Howell again isn't playing. Perhaps ordinary ECF members who, collectively, contribute substantially towards the cost of fielding English Olympiad teams will want to know why. I do.
The exact position was reached on move 69 of the first game and the final move (75) of the second.Philip Adams wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 9:35 pmIt was new to me too!Richard Bates wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 3:41 pmLook up "Vancura"Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 3:35 pm

In the form of a study attributed to Chéron (1923), this defensive setup appears in the manuals by Levenfish & Smyslov, Keres and Balashov & Prandstetter, as well as Batsford's Chess Endings (HT Dennis Monokroussos).
Has it ever occurred before in a published game?
Nunn's Chess Endings volume 2 has practical examples of the Vancura defence.Philip Adams wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 9:35 pmIt was new to me too!Richard Bates wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 3:41 pmLook up "Vancura"Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 3:35 pm

I don't disagree with any of this, but I really wouldn't mind the thinking behind team selections actually set out by the team captain. There's nothing abnormal about this in sport these days.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 11:37 pmWell how about:Angus French wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 10:44 pmSo, David Howell again isn't playing. Both the ECF members to whom you refer, and actual and prospective sponsors, like to see our teams and players being successful at Olympiads.
An individual Gold medal constitutes a major success.
