Only Ding currently looking a likely winner. (EDIT: indeed the only possible winner save Radjabov, since Naka and Nepo have also drawn.)

The chess24 online computer, FWIW which may not be much, has Ding +2 with 40 ... Bxd4 and level after instead playing g6

That does look like something fairly basic for a player of his strength to miss.

On the video feed he played g6 in a bit of a panic when down to about 10 seconds, albeit he had spent some time on the move.Matt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 6:49 pmThat does look like something fairly basic for a player of his strength to miss.

I've been greatly enjoying Giri's recaps. Very dry sense of humour. Elite GM insight.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 6:12 pmThe chess24 online computer, FWIW which may not be much, has Ding +2 with 40 ... Bxd4 and level after instead playing g6
I could probably do without the cartoon-ish captions that pop up every now and then, but that seems a curmudgeonly gripe given that it's free and typically appears the following morning just a few hours after the games finish
He has a few interesting things to say about Ding's 40th move (and also what happened to Firouzja in round 4 for that matter)

I don't want to be the cause of four games immediately burning out to draws ... but it's looking like a pretty tasty day so far.

At any rate, he draws with Ding: meanwhile Radjabov has missed a win, not really hard to see, against Rapport, who having failed to win with two rooks on the seventh against Firouzja, now draws while two rooks on the seventh himself.

Nepo beats Duda and temporarily leads by a point and a half, though Caruana is likely to cut that to half a point shortly.

No problem in having two early frontrunners, though it seems a bit much that they won five of the six decisive games so far! Of the others only Naka has won as much as one game, and that earns him sole third on 50% ...
Mind you, most players could have won one or even two games with just a bit more composure at certain moments. So hopefully a third runner will emerge in the second half.

Rapport also has 50% (=6).Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 7:10 pmNo problem in having two early frontrunners, though it seems a bit much that they won five of the six decisive games so far! Of the others only Naka has won as much as one game, and that earns him sole third on 50% ...

Ding has missed two fairly clear winning chances as well as having that shocker against Nepo to start with. Following his under-performance last time round he is starting to look like another Aronian as far as the ultimate chess prize is concerned.
