MVL had said he would if he didn't reach the Candidates himself
More like Firouzja helping MVL in today's game.

Playoff between So & Aronian EDIT and MVL
The players involved in the tie shall initially contest a Rapid or Blitz Round Robin, with the pairing numbers determined by lot.

Where there are three or more players involved in the tie, they shall contest a Blitz Round Robin where the time limit shall be game in 5 minutes with a 3 second increment per move from move 1.
If there is still a tie after the Round Robin is complete, the players in the remaining tie shall contest single “Armageddon” games on a knockout basis as required to split the tie.

Where the number of players in the remaining tie is not 2, 4 or 8, some players shall receive byes as necessary to reduce the number to 2, 4 or 8 in the next round. The pairings and the byes shall be determined by lot.
In each Armageddon game: White shall have 5 minutes and Black shall have 4 minutes, without any increment or delay. In the event of a draw Black shall be declared the winner.

Colors shall be determined by the toss of a coin, conducted by the Event Chief Arbiter. The winner of the toss shall have choice of color.

But that wasn't what happened, was it?

Even Greater Mancunian Homers nod.

From the Tiebreak Regulations for GCT Rapid and Blitz Events:
Where there are three or more players involved in the tie, they shall contest a Blitz Round Robin where the time limit shall be game in 5 minutes with a 3 second increment per move from move 1.
From the Tiebreak Regulations for GCT Classical Events:
Where there are three or more players in the tie, the time limit for the Rapid Round Robin shall be game in 10 minutes with a 5 second increment per move from move 1.

Ah, yes. Either way, it was quite sufficient entertainment when combined with extra time in the Cup Final.
