Re: Presidential Election 2022
A debate amongst Andrey Baryshpolets, Arkady Dvorkovich and Bachar Kouatly, three of the four candidates for FIDE President, can be viewed at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1538476175. It was hosted by the Association of Chess Professionals.
This does not seem to have been very widely publicised. I was alerted to it by an announcement at \the Team Ukraine club on Chess.com.
I was not greatly impressed by any of the three of them, but that is just my personal opinion.

I followed some of it but not with any great enthusiasm. Kouatly seemed to talk a lot without saying much, Dvorkovich seemed more interested in interrupting Baryshpolets and I learnt little about the latter because he waited for his turn to speak and was then often drowned out.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 12:37 amA debate amongst Andrey Baryshpolets, Arkady Dvorkovich and Bachar Kouatly, three of the four candidates for FIDE President, can be viewed at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1538476175. I watched the whole thing and failed to notice a single example of either. Baryshpolets was given every opportunity to speak and took full advantage.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 7:56 amDvorkovich seemed more interested in interrupting Baryshpolets and I learnt little about the latter because he waited for his turn to speak and was then often drowned out.
Could you perhaps give some points at which this happened?

Fair point, I've had a listen to some of the earlier footage and you are right that Baryshpolets did get a chance to speak both early on and, even when interrupted, did get the chance to finish his points.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 8:32 amI watched the whole thing and failed to notice a single example of either. In terms of the point about interrupting:
0:39 He interrupts Baryshpolets
0:54 He interrupts Maria
1:08 He interrupts Yuri
1:09 He interrupts Baryshpolets
1:27 He interrupts Baryshpolets
1:28 He interrupts Baryshpolets
so it was fairer for me to say he interrupted multiple people and not just one. I did query this recurring behaviour with a colleague of yours and was told "It's how politicians work"
From the chat:
1:31:13 Frauenschachexperten: jesus how somehow that agressively can possible run fide
1:31:31Frauenschachexperten:*someone
which I did find a bit harsh.
It may be that this is, in part, due to it being a Zoom call and in person it's easier to know when there is opportunity to speak and when to wait for the speaker to finish.

I have heard AD accused of being many things, but never impolite. To be honest, he is as courteous a Russian as I have ever met.

When is this election? Can Nick already forecast the result?

Presentations starting now. After drawing of lots, Baryshpolets goes first. Limited to 15 minutes each.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:38 amWhen is this election? Can Nick already forecast the result?
My forecast is that this will just go to a second round, but I am nowhere near as close to these things as previously. It seems clear that Dvorkovich will win easily.
AB's presentation is so far entirely about the Ukraine war.

Re: Presidential Election 2022
The Wilkinson / Kouatly presentation really does have to be viewed to be believed, total joke. But it turns out at the end this is because he is doing a Short and withdrawing - not explicitly in favour of Baryshpolets, although it sounded that way, since he did mention the Ukraine war.
edit : and I think I heard him say Dvorkovich had to go, which I suppose is clear enough!

Wrong, of course, since Kouatly withdrew.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 6:20 amMy forecast is that this will just go to a second round ...
Voting in progress between the two remaining candidates.
My final prediction: Two to one majority for Dvorkovich.

I heard PHN mention about US sanctions being applied to a Russian organisation that Dvorkevich was or is involved with but didn't catch the name so wasn't sure of its significance.

The Wilkinson introduction of Kouatly sounded more like something you might hear in a WWE ring!NickFaulks wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 6:52 amThe Wilkinson / Kouatly presentation really does have to be viewed to be believed, total joke.
