There's been a lot of chances in a lot of games in this tournament and they've practically all been missed except the ones the top lads have taken.

Which is why they are the top lads, I suppose.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 7:47 pmThere's been a lot of chances in a lot of games in this tournament and they've practically all been missed except the ones the top lads have taken.

Shak v Dubov drawn in 13 moves
Shankland v MVL drawn in 29 moves, so MVL is out of the running to reach the Candidates

Can't do full updates this afternoon sorry (allegedly I am working, but more to the point I only have my phone which i too fiddly for links) but just to say that after two hours, Sensations That May Or May Not Happen include Oparin, plus 2.3 against Aronian, and Tabatabaei, plus 2.5 against Giri (who has really shown nothing in this tournament so far).

Question now is will Oparin finish off Aronian, unlike he did with Naka

I suspect he will. Dominguez not doing too well, so all in all, every possibility that Rapport will be mathematically qualified by the end of the day; and Naka very likely to be the second qualifier, maybe qualified already if he wins today or, perhaps more likely, wins a tiebreaker against Oparin tomorrow.

agreed, Giri has been the biggest disappointment in this eventJustinHorton wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 4:00 pmCan't do full updates this afternoon sorry (allegedly I am working, but more to the point I only have my phone which i too fiddly for links) but just to say that after two hours, Sensations That May Or May Not Happen include Oparin, plus 2.3 against Aronian, and Tabatabaei, plus 2.5 against Giri (who has really shown nothing in this tournament so far).

Re: FIDE Grand Prix 3, Berlin 21 March to 4 April 2022
Naka had at least 3 points guaranteed before start of play, to take him to 16; if he doesn't lose his game against Esipenko, that gives him at least 4 taking him to 17; a group win would take him to 20Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 4:27 pmI suspect he will. So or Shankland can get to 17 by winning this leg, thus it seems likely that Naka won't qualify today
If Dominguez, Giri and Aronian join MVL in being knocked out today, then Rapport qualifies

Would you Adam and Eve it, Nakamura wins, and I think that puts him in the Candidates if Keymer clinches his game.

Yes, the effect of a Keymer victory, taken into conjunction with Nakamura's Pool A win, will be that no other player left in the tournament can reach the magic 20 GP point mark already reached by Rapport and which Nakamura will at least equal.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 5:31 pmWould you Adam and Eve it, Nakamura wins, and I think that puts him in the Candidates if Keymer clinches his game.
Therefore, apart from honour and prize money, the semifinals and final are redundant if Dominguez loses.
Considering the positions Hikaru got early in his first three games, that is pretty amazing.
EDIT: And so it came to pass, Nakamura and Rapport in the Candidates.
The failure of Aronian after his good start is maybe the most surprising thing,
