And all this shows a great quality of this champion, possibly the greatest: his stamina.
Enjoy it while it lasts, Magnus, as in a few years it will be gone.

If he finishes it off, must go down as one of the greatest wins in World Championship history IMO. Given that they’ve been on the increment for hours and anything comparable would have been played across multiple adjournments.

Glad that I chose today to mention the lack of talking points!

Not sure it’s stamina (although obviously it plays a part) so much as sheer fighting spirit, determination to keep the game alive, and will to win.Nick Ivell wrote: ↑Fri Dec 03, 2021 8:15 pmAnd all this shows a great quality of this champion, possibly the greatest: his stamina.

Well, wow.
Just shows though how quite a few of these "tablebase draws" are very difficult to draw in practice.

I got the impression when playing in Norway (perhaps wrongly) that Norwegians weren't that good at endings. I wonder if Magnus identified that early in his career, or maybe he just realized that you can pick up loads of half and full points against anyone by being determined and of course talented.
I imagine if Jack Rudd played a 136 move game that he would have 4 hours left on his clock.

This is a win for chess! The glum Northerner in me will wait and see whether, next time a player has an ephemeral advantage and could consider playing for a win, it plays on their mind that it now takes eight hours to do so successfully

I wonder what today's game will be like after yesterday's events. Probably quite a short game!

Not sure - if Magnus does get a sniff of something playable then he might decide its a good time to try and press?!MJMcCready wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 8:22 amI wonder what today's game will be like after yesterday's events. Probably quite a short game!

Surely it will be Nepo who is really keen to win. What am I missing?MartinCarpenter wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 8:54 amNot sure - if Magnus does get a sniff of something playable then he might decide its a good time to try and press?!MJMcCready wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 8:22 amI wonder what today's game will be like after yesterday's events. Just took the plunge and got on Nepo at 19/2 ( bookie style ). Can't be a bad punt.
