Well this....h5 push from Nepo is certainly interesting!
It certainly cuts out White's Qh5 ideas, which were looking dangerous.
It was one of the Stockfish ideas, so Nepo may have looked at it before the match. It breaks the symmetry at least.

I think he's eyeing up Nepo castling long.

Computer gives Magnus a definite edge, not really seeing it myself tbh.

White's position looks easier to play and black still has to sort out his kingside development.

The computer knew Nepomniaschi would play 21...b5.

I've got a lot of sympathy for that loss, horrible as it seems. Done similar too often! Maybe their match strategy always placed too high a demand on his patience?

I would speculate that it was sometime in the 1920s or 1930s -
On paper, it could have been the London Chess Classic where the main event started play at 4 pm. But there's no shortage of late night eateries in the Kensington area let alone London as a whole.
Timings of British one round a day tournaments were influenced by the desire to have something to report to the press with an early evening deadline and the meal times of boarding houses and small hotels which were often in the 7pm to 8pm slot.
I've just read this story but I can't remember where. Is it Botvinnik?

It was just after the above post that things got interesting!
Masterful display by the champ.

It is:
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Not implying that I'm better than Nepo at avoiding blunders, but surely all Black needs to know to avoid playing 21...b5 is that 22.Qa3+ is legal? Check the forcing moves. Maybe Nepo assumed ...Qd6 saved the pawn, but would any of us just stop calculating in a position where mutual queen captures are possible?

I noticed that also. There did seem quite a drop in his performance, and I can't see how he can pull it round now.

That's it then. All over bar the shouting.
The person who will beat Magnus will open up a lead earlier.
It won't be this generation. Magnus has no fear of any of them.

I think we have a fair idea of who it will be already, don't we? Assuming there's no miracle in this match anyway.

We have a fair idea. But it may be someone who is as yet unknown.
