EDIT: Does anyone know why the chess.com reporter kept referring to medals being won at the pool stage (i.e. gold, silver and bronze)? As far as I am aware, those finishing third in the pools stages got nothing, and the only 'prize' was the top two advancing to the quarterfinals, or do I have that wrong, were there medals for the pool stages?
Only two teams qualified from Division 1 for the Quarter Finals, but in the earlier pool stages three teams qualified for the next higher Division.

I too am not aware of there having been any medals for so doing.

Thanks, Mick. Will be interesting to see who ends up winning the event.

My impression when reading it was someone for whom English is not a first language struggling for a metaphor, but not sure

As for the winners, let's just hope there's no internet connection issues like last year, and there's no need for the FIDE President to intervene

Russia have won every match so far, so presumably they start as favourites

Spotted a tweet by Emil Sutovsky:
It is China - Russia and India - USA in the semis tomorrow!
Tomorrow might now be today.

USA needed a tiebreak match to eliminate the excellent team from Kazakhstan.
India needed a tiebreak match to eliminate Ukraine.
Hungary lost both initial matches to Russia, but only by the closest of scores.
China knocked out Poland without needing a tiebreak match.

Few too many mouseslips for comfort, really.

Russia defeated China. USA vs India goes to match three, the USA rebounding from a 5-1 shellacking in match 1.

Russia won both matches in the final 3.5 - 2.5; that makes 15/15 match wins which is impressive
