Thanks Jack but's it's still a horrible move for a strong GM to make. Perhaps, you could show us Malcolm's K and P endgame from yesterday which is really instructive. Kb6 rather than c3 looks like it draws - the opposition means everything here and the outflanking doesn't work when White has g4 at the end which just wins, of course.

Was his idea to play 19.... Qf6 thinking that as he was attacking d6 and f3 he would regain the pawn?

Yes in the Van Foreest-Pein game 55...Kb6 is a dead draw. If 56 Kxc4 Kxc6 and 56 c7 Kxc7 57 Kxc4 Kc6 is the same.
Malcolm is not paired for round 5.

Young Irish star FM Tarun Kanyamarala (born 2004) won with Black today against Italian GM Alessio Valsecchi and has 3/4.
Tomorrow he has White against Azeri GM Nidjat Mamedov who is presumably a relative of GM Rauf Mamedov who beat Tarun in round 1.

Tarun has also beaten one low-rated player and an unrated player, results he can discard if necessary towards an IM norm if he can score well in the remaining rounds. His sister WIM Trisha Kanyamarala is on 2/4.

In the morning they had both won in round 7 of Ireland's online olympiad match against Mozambique; Trisha had a walkover in round 8. They didn't play round 9.

Rd 5 pairings and we are down to just one player on 100%, the Armenian GM Robert Hovhannisyan (2626) who is pictured in the Round 4 report.

I hadn't realised until reading this that it was possible to play in online tournaments and physical tournaments at the same time. I suppose it makes sense in some ways. Wonder how common it is? Do people also play online tournaments simultaneously if the round timings allow it?

I put his name in Google and the first hit was the FIDE ratings page and the number 2763, which made me sit up for a moment before I realised this was his world ranking and his rating was a touch lower at 2369. This made me wonder, since ranking numbers fall as ratings rise, what the crossover point is and whether anybody possesses a world ranking and a FIDE rating with the same number.

I was slightly disappointed it wasn't someone better known, GM Hort has the same rating for example.

I think that that happened a number of times last year, although I can't give chapter and verse.

Arbiters have been instructed by Laurent Freyd, Chairman of the FIDE Arbiters' Commission, not to officiate at two events taking place at exactly the same time. Different events in the morning and in the afternoon are okay, I think.

I know some 'senior' players have been known to take quick draws in the 4NCL so that they can compete in the PRO league online.

Malcolm Pein is commentating with Ivan Sokolov today so that could be the reason he's not playing this round.

Going back to the (painful) Pein game: yes, 55...Kb6 keeps the opposition.

To be fair, K & P endings are tricky. And I'm guessing tiredness played a role.

Just checking, but after 55...Kb6, why can White not continue as in the game (i.e. Kf4 and g4 plan)? What is Black's defence there?
