That is correct, but the Round 8 results mean that Wesley So is the overall winner of the Grand Chess Tour whatever happens in Round 9.

Going back to round 5, Caruana's 23rd move against Xiong was indeed a shocker (Tim Harding mentioned the game earlier, but maybe he was referring more to the later 34...Rd8?? move?).
23...Nd8 24.Nb4 and suddenly White has a protected knight on d5 and a massive (probably winning) edge.
Some noise was made about 29.Nh4 as a better continuation than the game.
