Not sure what the event gained from Saric and Kasparov playing ...
The participation of a top local player and of a long time World Champion, perhaps.
Agreed but he looked out-classed in most games and went horribly wrong when he lost. He didn't look anything like the Kasparov of old. I found it to be rather painful, and I don't see why he lost in 7 moves, it didn't look all that bad.

It looked horrific.

If you see the sequence, 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e3 you perhaps don't expect the game to end quickly. But after Black's sharp response 3. .. e5 it appears ideas like Qb3 better known in the context of an early d4 after 1. e4 e5 become available

Even on his worst chess day, and yesterday probably was it, Kasparov can calculate two moves and see he is busted.

The position is an odd one in that respect, at first sight it looks like Black must have some sort of a defence but you soon realise they are hopelessly lost in every variation (which the silicon monster duly confirms)

Okay, well clearly I got it wrong then as it didn't look resignable to me.
