FIDE have dropped both the wild card and rating qualifying

Unless you see Radjabov as a de facto wildcard, I suppose?

Or Radjabov is the sponsor's choice.

I don't think Radjabov should have been given an automatic slot. Also, if I'd won the wildcard in a lottery, I would have given it to him. I need some time to think about why.

Grand Prix has 24 players; qualifiers so far are Bacrot, Vidit, Fedoseev, Shankland, Tabatabaei, Oparin, Yu Yangyi, Keymer, Predke, MVL and Shirov, with 11 players from the December rating list and 2 nominees

I'm not seeing much mention of the world number two. Nor of Giri, come to that.

MVL has qualified for the Grand Prix; the rating places are likely to go to Ding, Giri, So, Grischuk, Aronian, Mamedyarov, Rapport, Dominguez assuming they want to play, plus 3 others

Next on the live list would be Anand & Wang Hao who I assume won't play, Nakamura, Vituigov, Topalov who again presumably won't play, Wei Yi and Andreikin

The Euro Teams might change this of course

My understanding is that the organisers (Germany) had to nominate a player 2650+ for their wild card. Currently only two German-registered players meet that criterion: Keymer (who is already qualified for the series) and Nisipeanu (2652).
Did Nisipeanu decline the spot or was he not offered it?

DUbov getting it looks like a reward for helping Magnus in the World Championship.
In view of the criticism he received for that, can we look forward to Dubov moving to Germany?

The GP should be more fun than the previous series, especially with Nakamura included, whatever people think of him.

My tips to make it to the Candidates would be Ding and So, but Magnus will be hoping they don't make it as they have been among his most difficult opponents.
