Unless you see Radjabov as a de facto wildcard, I suppose?

chess 24
Pete DoggersPotentially we can then have the Candidates and another World Championship match in 2022
which agrees with what Matt said aboveOne consequence of Radjabov's inclusion is that there won't be a wildcard that can be chosen by the sponsor this time

Or Radjabov is the sponsor's choice.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 7:36 amPete DoggersOne consequence of Radjabov's inclusion is that there won't be a wildcard that can be chosen by the sponsor this time

I don't think Radjabov should have been given an automatic slot. Also, if I'd won the wildcard in a lottery, I would have given it to him. I need some time to think about why.

I'm not seeing much mention of the world number two. Nor of Giri, come to that.

Re: Qualifying for 2022 Candidates
MVL has qualified for the Grand Prix; the rating places are likely to go to Ding, Giri, So, Grischuk, Aronian, Mamedyarov, Rapport, Dominguez assuming they want to play, plus 3 others
Next on the live list would be Anand & Wang Hao who I assume won't play, Nakamura, Vituigov, Topalov who again presumably won't play, Wei Yi and Andreikin
The Euro Teams might change this of course

Re: Qualifying for 2022 Candidates
Chessbase: "Six players have already qualified for the Candidates Tournament 2022, and the two remaining spots will go to the two best players in the FIDE Grand Prix 2022, a series of three tournaments that will be played from February to April in Berlin and Belgrade. The FIDE recently announced that Hikaru Nakamura, who in the last two years has not played a single FIDE-rated game, will get the FIDE wild card for the Grand Prix. Daniil Dubov will get a wild card from the organiser."

Re: Qualifying for 2022 Candidates
My understanding is that the organisers (Germany) had to nominate a player 2650+ for their wild card. Currently only two German-registered players meet that criterion: Keymer (who is already qualified for the series) and Nisipeanu (2652).Chris Rice wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 11:46 amChessbase: "Six players have already qualified for the Candidates Tournament 2022, and the two remaining spots will go to the two best players in the FIDE Grand Prix 2022, a series of three tournaments that will be played from February to April in Berlin and Belgrade. Did Nisipeanu decline the spot or was he not offered it?
DUbov getting it looks like a reward for helping Magnus in the World Championship.
In view of the criticism he received for that, can we look forward to Dubov moving to Germany?
The GP should be more fun than the previous series, especially with Nakamura included, whatever people think of him.
My tips to make it to the Candidates would be Ding and So, but Magnus will be hoping they don't make it as they have been among his most difficult opponents.
