So is out, blundering just when he seemed to have a chance

Nepo seems to have missed a couple of reasonably straightforward chances to put Carlsen out in game three
which allowed Magnus to win game 3 and 4 to win today's match and force a play-off.

Nepo and Giri win on day 1 of the semifinals
That'll teach me to make a comment about the inevitable Carlsen-So final during game 3
Well, they do meet in the 3rd place playoff :)

Well I log on a few minutes late and Magnus has played 4 a4 in a Four Knights and then Wesley has had a careless moment

All four Giri-Nepo games drawn including an odd final game in which Nepo seems (if the Chess24 timings are to be believed, which may not be the case) to have played almost all his moves instantly.

Oh well, hope for a more interesting day tomorrow. Hasn't generally been a bad tournament though, just today.

Lucky I was too busy to watch the cricket or the rugby...

Giri on Nepo: "He’s faster, more dangerous, sharper than Magnus, more tactically alert, there’s much more aggression coming from him. If you look only at his pluses you think he’s the best player in the world"
Nepomniachtchi said he had prepared this particular line about half a year ago for both colors. He knew it's a draw if Black knows all the moves, and Giri was up to the task

12.Rxb7 was described as a TN, but it was also the most obvious candidate move, so no surprise that both players had previously analysed it out to a draw.

How far back do you now have to go to find winning chances for White in the PP?

A couple of higher-rated CC opponents have played the PP recently - I must check out the games...

I've played Nb3 allowing the queen exchange with .. Qe3+. White's edge is miniscule, if at all, but the game continues. Against the line with .. h6, you can defend the b2 pawn tactically with a3. You can also do this in the normal lines, but you waste time getting the dark square bishop back to the g1 to a7 diagonal.

White still wins games in it tbf, though I appreciate that isn't *quite* the same thing......

Of course, I'm not talking about you and me, or probably even about IMs.

Giri's 7.g4 is almost a TN. Could it be a Really Big Move, like Perenyi's 7.g4 against the Najdorf?

Well well, Nepo pulls it out of the fire and wins the fourth game with Black
