FIDE on Twitter have said that an unnamed player (presumably GM Meguaranto) had tests on July 10th, July 11th, and July 14th with the last (I'm guessing - the tweet isn't clear) being positive. A Health Protocol document for the event refers to tests on arrival in Russia and then on 16 July (tomorrow), 20 July, 26 July... So why the extra tests?
Meguaranto took an additional test voluntarily on July 14th.
And presumably the test on 11 July was also additional. Which raises the question: why two additional tests? Was everyone taking them? Was it felt that GM Meguaranto might be infected?

The testing agency should have notified any positive results by 1300 on July 15th. As Meguaranto had heard nothing by then, he went to play Caruana.

We know what happened then.
Should he have been allowed to start his game without the test result being known?

So what is the point of testing if a negative is met with "you might have it anyway, so you're out"?
Because a negative test result provides some assurance - that likely you weren't positive some days before the test?

So what is the point of testing if a negative is met with "you might have it anyway, so you're out"? To me, the real point is that both of the female players said they felt unwell, so not playing was a sensible decision.
The tweet states that they both felt well, not unwell.

By the way, Ravi is +4 against Bacrot in their second game:

[edit] ... and Bacrot has just resigned!

The arrangement seems to have been that only positive tests were notified. Maybe that was unwise of FIDE, but the bulk of the blame must surely rest with the testing agency.

Is this an appropriate time to ask just how good Ravi might become?

Ravi won on the Black side of an Exchange French! Very nice endgame technique or perhaps Bacrot should have just taken the draw.

He might win the whole thing if enough players drop out

Um, I made two points and only the second has been responded to. I think a response to the first point (about the number of additional tests) could have a bearing on the second...

Also, if only positive results are notified, how is it known whether a result is negative or late?

I have told you what I know. If you would like further details, I suggest that you contact Emil Sutovsky.

Why is Carlsen in it anyways? Is it that they couldn't get Plaskett and have done with it? Seriously though, he played in this before and got knocked out I think ..

Why Carlsen is in it is a question well worth asking, as is the impact of his entry on the tournament (for example, he puts the people who would otherwise be the top two seeds into the same half of the draw, although other events have now overtaken that particular consideration).
