Ravi Haria (2440) 1-0 V Zvjaginsev (2608)
Whilst I was typing that, Tim posted, but I think it's worth saying twice.
Well done Ravi!

I'll say it for a third time Ravi Haria (2440) 1-0 V Zvjaginsev (2608)Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 5:29 pmRavi Haria (2440) 1-0 V Zvjaginsev (2608)

Great news. I was expecting to see tactical opportunism. But actually a very good positional squeeze.

Many a 4NCL team evening meal has started (possibly even finished) whilst Ravi is completing a long gamePaul Cooksey wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 5:35 pmGreat news. I was expecting to see tactical opportunism. But actually a very good positional squeeze.

Re: 2021 World Cup
Amazing result and Paul's assessment seems right on the money. Zvianginsev seemed fine to move 21 when he seems to have made a positional error by trading the rooks as he did allowing White to strengthen his pawn structure. Only a small plus for White but Ravi milked it perfectly.Paul Cooksey wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 5:35 pmGreat news. I was expecting to see tactical opportunism. Nihal Sarin won yesterday too. I mention it because he is up a remarkable 82 places to 87 on the live ratings.

Re: 2021 World Cup
Zvyaginsev is throwing the kitchen sink at Ravi this afternoon, which he has to do, but after 28 moves Ravi is two pawns up with winning chances according to the online engine. It's very tense though and he is down to about 5 minutes.
I hope he can hold his nerve and calculate accurately. He only needs to draw.

Re: 2021 World Cup
Time control made now and Ravi is fighting for a draw but may get it in the endgame. He has two rooks and four pawns against RBN and two pawns.

The critical moment was move 33 when advancing his passed d-pawn would have deflected White's B.
The immediate 33...Kg8 would allow Bd5.
The way it actually went White probably missed a clear win somewhere?

Agreed - Ravi was doing fine, I went out briefly and when I returned he was in big trouble.
