Ravi brings it home in the first tiebreaker. Great game to follow. At least 2 instructive moments for me:

24.Nb1 is a really nice re-routing of the knight. On a3 it blockades the a4 pawn whilst attacking b5.

And also in the rook endgame - Ravi is lots of pawns up, but he doesn't mind giving a bunch back to reach a theoretically winning Lucena position (well almost) at the end.

The next game should be tense...

Bacrot next for Ravi, only 70 points higher than his first opponent.

Well done Kevin, and slightly more importantly, well done Ravi and good luck against Bacrot

That is quite impressive, didn't give Ravi much chance in the tiebreaks tbh.

He defended the 2v1 rook endgame flawlessly which was quite impressive as at several moments the drawing margin was very tight. I've lost at least one similar endgame with 30 second increment - defending on 10 seconds is some solid stuff! It looks like white has made tremendous progress bringing the king all the way to g8 but it is still a draw. I'd be interested to know if Ravi knew it was holding - he looked pretty calm on video.

Why don't we have any English players at the world cup?

I assume there is a missing "other" typo above.

Adams chose not to play, no-one else qualified. I don't think I have seen his reason, but I would have been more surprised if he had chosen to play

Though moves were played?... I notice from the broadcast that most of the players aren't wearing masks.

It seems that the test result came back during the game, which seems less than ideal.
