Obscure International OTB Events Going Ahead
As requested, rather than posting these events in the Chess Life Returning to Normal, I've started a New Topic for obscure OTB International Chess Events Going Ahead.
So here are the first ones I have found:
According to the Canadian Chess Federation website calendar, the following events are going ahead:
9th October Maritime Blitz Championship
Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
10th-11th October PEI Open Chess Championship.
Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
14th-15th November KW Fall Open.
Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
Has anyone else found obscure International OTB events going ahead?

Nearer to home, the 14th Senior Open Championship of Schleswig-Holstein began yesterday in Busum, Germany, with (if I counted correctly) 128 competitors including IM Klaus Klundt and five FMs.
Another Senior tournament is due to start in Dresden on 13 October. (But I have just seen that entries are now closed because of a limit of 49 players due to coronavirus restrictions).

Finally a Senior tournament scheduled for a Baltic resort in December already has 170 entries.

I have a copy of your book Dynamic Black Defenses 1989 Edition. I thought the book was excellent.

In Bad Wiessee the 24Th Open International Bavarian championship will go ahead https://www.schach-tegernsee.de/, but registrations are already closed, because number of participants needed to be reduced to 340, to be able to keep distances.

I am not sure Bad Wiessee counts as obscure!IngridLauterbach wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 7:55 amIn Bad Wiessee the 24Th Open International Bavarian championship will go ahead https://www.schach-tegernsee.de/, but registrations are already closed, because number of participants needed to be reduced to 340, to be able to keep distances.
When I last checked about a month ago, not only were registrations full but they were refusing to take more names on their waiting list!
Bad Wiessee is always popular, but I guess Germany as a whole is even more popular for chess now as its covid numbers are relatively low.

Re: Obscure International OTB Events Going Ahead
There are several weekend events in Switzerland. I got an email about the Swiss Chess Tour though some of the events have already happened.
http://www.swisschesstour.com/
I don't think there were Senior events though, just opens.
And it's a very expensive country to visit.
Flims next weekend: 9-11 October
Locarno 16-18 October
Chiasso 24-25 October
Lugano 6-8 November
Adelboden 4-6 December
Lodrino 19-20 December
Basel 2-5 January 2021
and more next year...

I have found a few going ahead in the USA before Christmas.
But even across the pond, a lot have been cancelled.

Re: Obscure International OTB Events Going Ahead
But there has been no update to their website since I posted about this on 6 September. With the update now being 2 weeks late, no venues announced, and no means of entering, it must be in doubt.Simon Rogers wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 10:57 pm29th November-08th December ll ellobregat Open Chess.
