Re: Czech Open Pardubice September 2020
Federico Rocco turned the tables on a IM today to move into 4th equal after 5 rounds. Grabbing a CM title out of this tournament seems achievable. Tim's also got 4/5 in the B event.

Federico's got a reasonable chance of an IM norm there - he needs two titled players in the last three rounds and to keep his TPR around where it is (he'll get to bump it up by 33 points by uprating his round 3 opponent).Matt Bridgeman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 7:19 pmFederico Rocco turned the tables on a IM today to move into 4th equal after 5 rounds. Rocco was born 2003, so 16 or 17 and thus a rare sight these days, an English junior travelling far in search of opportunities and rewarded by success. He already showed promise in the 2019 British Championship where he defeated Wadsworth and Fernandez in the first two rounds before dropping back to 4/9. He stood worse for the first part of today's game in Pardubice but took his chance when the IM erred. He lost in round one to No3 seed van Foreest but has won the next four.

Actually you find Daniel Abbas was playing tournaments abroad instead of the British and he still only 20; the thing he thought the British junior chess is poorLeonard Barden wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 9:41 pmRocco was born 2003, so 16 or 17 and thus a rare sight these days, an English junior travelling far in search of opportunities and rewarded by success. I like this lad Rocco's play even more on further investigation.
His win against GM Fernandez at Torquay 2019 was well-earned https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1968073
and in the same British championship he won a 15-mover with a nice tactic.

Seems his school is Queen Elizabeths Barnet.
Round 4 from Pardubice was also pretty good: http://chess-results.com/partieSuche.as ... 30505&rd=4

I think Danny Gormally mentioned Rocco's 6 hour plus spartan training days in his British Championship commentary. The works obviously paying off now.

Double round day in Pardubice.
Sadly after 20 moves this one is looking a bridge too far:

Update after 22 moves: Ugh.

He is now 17. It wouldn't be proper for me to divulge his exact date of birth.

18 and born in 2002 according to Adam Raoof. Apparently his Fide rating card has the wrong year.David Sedgwick wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 11:38 amHe is now 17. It wouldn't be proper for me to divulge his exact date of birth.

Thanks. I couldn't find him in the U18 list in the ECF Rating / Grading database. That explains why.Leonard Barden wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 11:43 am18 and born in 2002 according to Adam Raoof. His K factor is 40, according to the tournament site (http://chess-results.com/tnr530505.aspx ... =30&snr=64), which is giving his live rating a boostDavid Sedgwick wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 11:50 amThanks. A rather childish post from MJMcCready and not the first one was removed.
