I see. So, if a man or woman were required, a country could still choose which man or which woman to play - and could they choose between all four men or all four women, or just those who played in the original matches?
All 4 I think; Hungary chose their board 2 Banusz against Wagner as you know, so there's obviously some flexibility
Mick is correct.

From the Regulations:

"In the event of drawn duel, the tie is broken with an Armageddon game. A drawing of lots is done automatically by HIP to determine in which of the four categories the Armageddon game is to be played. The captain of each team shall nominate one player, from the respective category. Once one player for each team has been nominated, there is a drawing of lots to determine which player can choose whether they play white or black. The time limit for the Armageddon game is 5 minutes for white, and 4 minutes for black, with no increment. If the player with the white pieces wins the game, his/her team wins the duel. If the player with the black pieces wins or draws the game, his/her team wins the duel."

The emboldening is mine.

we knew they were well matched, but .... (did anyone even miss a win? A human win, that is, not whatever Koneru missed).

Predictions then! Come on! I'll take Russia.

I'll stay with Russia, even if they did look a bit shaky just now ( I thought ). Hope it isn't Armageddon.

The girls are down to a minute each with 32 pieces on the board.

And Divya's flag falls, internet trouble?

Not a good time for India to suffer multiple disconnections/losses on time.

Round 2 on 2020/08/30 at 1200 UTC
Bo. 2 Russia Rtg - 1 India Rtg 4½:1½
1.1 GM Nepomniachtchi, Ian 2778 - GM Anand, Viswanathan 2751 ½ - ½
1.2 GM Dubov, Daniil 2770 - GM Vidit, Santosh Gujrathi 2636 ½ - ½
1.3 GM Goryachkina, Aleksandra 2502 - GM Koneru, Humpy 2483 1 - 0
1.4 GM Kosteniuk, Alexandra 2517 - GM Harika, Dronavalli 2450 ½ - ½
1.5 GM Esipenko, Andrey 2629 - GM Nihal, Sarin 2418 1 - 0
1.6 WGM Shuvalova, Polina 2379 - WIM Divya, Deshmukh 1775 1 - 0

The almost simultaneous losses on time/disconnections came on the bottom two boards. White had varying degrees of advantage on the two boards. Russia subsequently ground out a win on board three.

It does sound like the board 6 game where white was better was player, rather than internet, error.

I posted that clip from Airplane! where Johnny pulls the plug feeding the airfield lights at a critical moment and then re-inserts with a "Just kidding" throwaway line, but then I thought someone might have a sense of humour failure and take it as a serious suggestion of skullduggery.

FIDE has posted in haste:

https://www.fide.com/news/721

I say in haste due to the lack of proof-reading: "Inida and Russia win gold medals" *

It sounds as though the two remaining members of the Appeals Committee (President Dvorkovich recusing himself) were split about what to do and so Dvorkovich made a presidential ruling to declare both India and Russia joint Champions.

FIDE Director General GM Emil Sutovsky previously tweeted:

"Team India submitted an appeal. It will be reviewed shortly. FIDE President A. Dvorkovich sits out the appeal, as he represents Russia. IO M.Khodarkovsky (USA) and IA Sava Stoisavljevic (Serbia) to issue a verdict. FIDE knows about possible impact of the global Internet outage."

* typo corrected on the FIDE site after a few minutes
