Uxbridge Chess Congress Open:

Alexei Slavin and James Adair finished 1st= on 4.5/5 in Sean Hewitt's latest FIDE rated open. Keith Arkell, Alexander Cherniaev and John Cox finished 3rd= on 4. James had an impressive 2333 performance but Alexei had an amazing tournament, performing at 2721, beating GMs Cherniaev & Arkell, FM Radovanovic and drawing with John Cox in the last round. His round two game against Cherniaev was particularly entertaining although he had some good fortune winning after Arkell avoided repetition in round 3 and winning a rook ending two pawns down in round 4 in the blitz finish!

Nigel Short v Zahar Efimenko Match 20 - 26 September 2009 Mukachevo (Ukraine) organised by UEP:

The first two games resulted in wins for black! Nigel lost the first game with white and was unrecognisable as the player who has stormed to 2700 in recent months. Thankfully he bounced back with a comprehensive victory in game 2.
