FIDE Appeals Committees

Post by Chris Rice » Mon Jan 06, 2020 5:24 pm

Previous administrations have received a lot of criticism for making "political" appointments. Emil Sutovsky has announced the following on FB based on the notion that this lot of arbiters probably know what they are doing and ends with a word of concern for anyone who may want to challenge what FIDE have done:

"Here is the list of distinguished Grandmasters - members of the appeals appointed by new FIDE management within a bit more than a year:

Gaprindashvili, Beliavsky, Hjartarsson, Short, Yusupov, Psakhis, Xie Jun, Krasenkow, Romanishin, Smirin, Balashov, Sadvokassov, Zaitsev, Galliamova, Repkova, Brustman.

In order to make it more efficient and cost-effective, we have united two positions, and now FIDE Supervisor role is fulfilled by the Chief of Appeals. Nigel Short serves in this role in Shanghai-Vladivostok, Lukasz Turlej did it in World Rapid and Blitz, Jeroen van den Berg in Kazan.

Moreover, we got rid of appeals committees where possible - sparing organizers' expenses in Women Grand Prix Series and Grand Swiss (the appeals committees there are composed of players). Now if you claim, that these appointments are political - I am not worried about your evaluation of our work. I am concerned about your sanity."
