It's been known for some while that Kramnik was trigger happy in his accusations against fellow GMs.
This has now escalated into a potential lawsuit.

Kramnik really hasn't done himself many favours in the last year or two.

Fide said, "We are firmly convinced that the lawsuit against GM Navara should be withdrawn as soon as possible in the interest of the entire chess community. We sincerely hope that GM Kramnik will take this morally justified step, which we believe will be welcomed by the broader chess world."
I'm not entirely sure that FIDE is any position to give lectures on morals. Perhaps somebody with legal qualifications could say whether it is wise (or even legal) to tell somebody to withdraw legal action?

Does anyone know what defamatory statement Navara is accused of making? If Kramnik has started legal proceedings, in which country?

I don’t know exactly what statement Navara is accused of making - if anyone has been defamed in this affair however it looks to me more likely that Kramnik has defamed Navara than the other way round.
