Poppycock. I've been "training" as an arbiter now for about 8 months, and I still don't consider myself to "have all the required knowledge". It's not because I don't know the rules; I reckon I know those without problems. Arbiting is more than knowing the rules though. It requires a lot of common sense, thinking on your feet, and general administration that can take years to get right.

No - it would take 1 Hour Good DVD and you would learn on the job and make an occasional mistake that may require tippex to fix.

I recently ran 3 sections, a tournament and arbited solely, all using a Computer program- delegating to other players in some time pressure instances to relay what happened then made informed judgements. They are also more than happy to help relay what happened.

Hi Charlie

I fear with all effort you have put into pushing The Sniper a load of players
who are not quite ready for such ventures will come a cropper.

I recall Tony Miles and a certain 1...a6 which resulted in 100's of Black losses.
(the main reason being none of the players were Tony Miles.)

On the bright side I am currently working on the antidote to The Sniper.
'The Viper.' (Viper rhymes with Sniper this guarentees a mention in any future chess poems.)

As White you allow your c-pawns to be tripled then play Bg2 and Bxc6
Tripling Black's c-pawns so you have a Sextuple of pawns on the c-file.

Keep up the good work and just in case you beat a German lad with The Sniper
and he wants to know what just hit him, the German for Sniper is 'Heckenschytze'.

That double tripling of pawns would definitely worthy of game time in next Sniper Monthly Update. The main difference between Miles move and the Sniper is that both Carlsen and Anand play many of The Sniper recommended variation so I think The Sniper has a far greater stamp of approval - its not just creative it's also sound.
