Chess Go Spinny

Post by IM Jack Rudd » Mon Jan 03, 2022 12:59 am

My chess blog. Focuses mainly on game annotations of events that happen to catch my eye. If you want me to annotate anything in particular, let me know and it may make it there.

Yeah that's odd. Click on the link at the foot of Jack's post and all is well. It appears that if you present the URL in a certain form, this forum adds its own URL to it.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

That behaviour is not unique to this website. The calendar on the FIDE website, for example, does the same thing with some links to tournament websites.

A solution is to put https://chessgospinny.blogspot.com instead of chessgospinny.blogspot.com.

Hmm yes a little odd but I corrected a couple - maybe as it is a sub domain?

Ah, thanks for alerting me. I seem to have lost most of the annotations I made to that game. I wonder what's caused the problem there.

This is what the annotations to the game look like at the moment, in both my main database and my archive. But I know I wrote more than that.

(And I am currently in no good position to fix it, because I don't have a working right mouse button; the one on my mouse has long since gone, but the one under my keyboard is now also not working.)

I may know the answer to this. First of all to get my bearings do you ever a) edit database files with a WP editor like Notepad ? b) open another separate engine program such as Rybka while chessbase is open? c) have you ever used the game history option while in the database path windows ?

a) Yes, but not in this case.

b) No, all using engines within Chessbase.

c) Don't think so.

I don't think we could find the exact cause but a general statement would be that Chessbase was halted before all the necessary files had saved. I have accidentally done this when I wished to shut my PC down by using the route START - POWER - SHUTDOWN. It then warned me that, amongst others, the Chessbase application was open and suggested I might like to go back in to close it. I ignored the message and learnt the hard way.

If you are lucky you could try looking at the game history files by the route - database window - top left corner: game history - year - month - day and examine the games saved. My database has six snapshots of the game I was analysing that day. If you are lucky you might find a version of your game with more comments than the latest one saved conventionally. Hope it works.
