Glenn Flear's , "definitive guide to the endgames that really matter" , Everyman 2007 defines a NQE, not quite an ending, as " one player has two pieces and the other has two pieces or less". It is a classic chess reference book and an enjoyable read/browse for sub- 180 players (with a powerful engine!).
I have just read the endgame chapter in "Strike like Judit!", Nic, 2018. I found it a very enjoyable read ( with a powerful engine). Almost all the illustrative examples of wonderful tactics begin with one player having having 3 pieces or more.
My question is what books or parts of books do others recommend for almost NQEs : tactics+ ?

Two which spring to mind are: Dvoretsky's "Endgame Manual" and James Howell's "Essential Chess Endings".
