Bobby had trouble against the French Defence. Note W.Uhlmann. I think 7. a4 is wrong. I try others.
1 game against Chris Clegg with Black. He always played it I lost.

Yes , that was a known weakness of his at that time but regarding the game in 1960 against Ulhmann I think he was okay in the opening, he just got outplayed in the middlegame and endgame.

Has anyone ever played the two knight's variation against the French? Is it worth a peak, there appear to be lines, the sort of which you would expect to see in one of Nimzowitch's games.

Never played it. Might be ok against the Caro, but you can't expect anything with it against the French.

Yes suspect you're right there. Seems very much like the sort of thing I used to see in Nimzowitch's games, all very retro.
