Nobody Noticed This For 195 Years

Post by James Pratt » Sat Oct 17, 2026 1:56 am

My YouTube has stopped allowing me use of hyperlinks but if you still use UT just plug this in for a chess and art history lesson, combined, use the heading 'Nobody Noticed .. ' ~ see above ~ for talk of the  devil, Morphy and to watch some detailed detective work that verges on the forensic.
Detailed analysis with a charming lightness of touch.

Analysts are still uncovering new stuff in the Evergreen and Immortal games. Chess is quite remarkable at its best.

This painting is in 'Chess In Art' 1100-1900 by Peter Herel Raabenstein (Here Love 2020) p102 and attributed to FMA Retzsch a German painter, draughtman and etcher. His dates are given as 1779-1857.
