Nah, surely ten thousand is nearer the mark now - got to allow for inflation, and a lot of what's politely known as "deferred maintenance".

That set looks to be showing its age a bit. My genuine Staunton (by Jacques) - chess only, no draughts - has only a couple of spikes missing from the black queen's crown. No idea of its age, though. Wonder what it would be worth?

It looks in good condition and presumably the box is original, so that would help.
