The name of Francis Joseph Lee, an English chess professional active between the late 1880s and his death in 1909, is rarely mentioned today.
I've written two articles about him in my Minor Pieces series for British Chess News.

If you have a passion for chess history I hope you'll find them, and my previous 68 articles, of some interest.

Re: Francis Joseph Lee
Thank you very much indeed for this.
A player I have often seen mentioned in reports of major chess events of that time, but still never knew that much about.
Well, one does know a bit more now

Another fantastic article(s) on a strong English player from this period. These players who were just under the radar as not as strong as Atkins, Blackburne, Yates and others, but led fascinating lives are a pleasure to read about. Many thanks Richard for all the work you have completed on these.

His results seemed to be a bit up and down. Some good wins against quality opposition but some bad losses too.

British Chess News is now back up, having crashed on Wednesday evening. I suspect the problem was that too many people were trying to read my FJ Lee articles at the same time!
You can now enjoy them (and my earlier Minor Pieces) again.

Yes, I'm sure that the FJ Lee article was the catalyst.Richard James wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 10:40 amBritish Chess News is now back up, having crashed on Wednesday evening. I suspect the problem was that too many people were trying to read my FJ
It was, in fact, a file path issue caused by a clash with WordFence Pro and the ISP hosting solution.
A very niche error.
This took around 2-3 days of elapsed time to resolve but we got there in the end.
