Re: Who are these English players?
Given that the material seems plausibly to have come from Ken Harman's archive, the diminutive gentleman holding the umbrella could well be Steward Reuben. Others are likely to have been members of the Islington club.
(Ken Harman is still active in Hants and Dorset chess circles, whilst both James Pratt and John Upham have connections with that area)

The smaller gentleman is indeed SR but who are the others?Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 9:51 amGiven that the material seems plausibly to have come from Ken Harman's archive, the diminutive gentleman holding the umbrella could well be Steward Reuben. Kenny lives in Southern Hampshire with his wife Anna and various cats. JDP lives in Basingstoke and myself in Cove.
We are all on the edge of a precipice to see RDdC's 20,000th post....I can't wait.

Thanks for the star prize, John, though with my 1/4 score it must be the Slow Starter.Paul Habershon wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 10:18 pmCorrect and you win the star prize.
It was taken at Ron and Ken's flat in Stoke Newington.
I look forward to seeing the identity of the bowler. I'm at a loss with the latest group photo but won't be surprised if I have played one of them in addition to Stewart.

You correctly ID'd the bowler as Stewart Reuben although I'm not aware of the venue.Paul Habershon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 1:00 pmI look forward to seeing the identity of the bowler. Long shot for venue could be Oldway Mansion, Paignton, long time venue of the Paignton Congress. Played there before I had a job and remember seeing Nona Gaprindashvili playing the slot machines in a seafront arcade. Seemed incongruous but wasn't really.John Upham wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 1:36 pmYou correctly ID'd the bowler as Stewart Reuben although I'm not aware of the venue.Paul Habershon wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 1:00 pmI look forward to seeing the identity of the bowler. Re: Who are these English players?
For the likely vintage of this photo (50s or 60s?) no London buses had front entrances, so it us probably somewhere a bit more provincial.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 3:29 pmI decided from the bus, that it might be somewhere in London?

Re: Who are these English players?
The original venue query was about where Stewart Reuben was playing bowls. I think he must be on a cruise, otherwise he would surely have jumped in with an explanatory post on these photographs.Mike Gunn wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 12:03 amFor the likely vintage of this photo (50s or 60s?) no London buses had front entrances, so it us probably somewhere a bit more provincial.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 3:29 pmI decided from the bus, that it might be somewhere in London?

Falaise Hall (Hastings) had a bowling green next to it, not that bowling greens are an unusual sight.
