British Chess Magazine in 1949

Post by Andrey Terekhov » Thu Dec 30, 2021 1:00 pm

Some time ago I bought a bound copy of the "British Chess Magazine" for 1949. Today I realized that some pages might be missing in it, although I am not quite sure. I assume that there must be a few other members of the forum who also own this year. Could you please let me know whether there are pages 233-264 in your copy, or if they are missing too?

What really puzzles me is that page 232 is the last one in No. 7 (July 1949) and 265 is the first page of No. 8 (August 1949), so it could have been a page numbering error, or perhaps there was some special issue between these two?

My 1949 bound copy has the same numbering and format as yours.

Pages 233-264 are also missing from my 1949 BCM magazines. I have a complete set of loose issues for 1949, not a bound volume. I also have a copy of the index for that year which doesn't reference anything between those two page numbers. I too suspect a page numbering error. I had a look through subsequent issues to see if there was an apology or explanation but didn't find anything.

I have a 1949 bound volume (at some point previously owned by JM Soesan) and loose issues and an Index.

Pages 233 to 264 inclusive do not exist in any of these so as John suggests presumably a strange page numbering error.

Good spot Andrey!
