'I hope Jenners has got its sign back!'.

Being kept safe from anti-vaxxers perhaps?

I didn't notice T. D. Harding or R. de Coverly.
I appear later in the season. For the 1969-70 and 1970-71 seasons look in Cambridge (University) county teams, otherwise Bucks from 1968-69 onwards.
So far as I recall, I played almost no chess between about March 1969 and June 1971 as I had final exams in '69 and then postgraduate work - a 2-year masters really though Oxford call it a B.Phil. to confuse everyone else.
In my database I have only two games from 1970 (if the year is right), which it may not be): a county match against John Thornton and a game in the university championship which is probably mis-dated.

Then in midsummer 1971 Alan Crombleholme arranged a small masters event in Oxford (where George Botterill got his first IM norm, I think) and I played in a subsidiary event. Then George, Alan and I went to Marlow and later Barnstaple weekend events.
The notorious Jeremy Thorpe MP opened the latter event as it was in his constituency. That was before he became better known for shooting a dog. Happy days,

It wasn't Thorpe who shot the dog
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

"It wasn't Thorpe who shot the dog"

True, but he arranged for the incompetent hitman to try to kill Norman Scott, so that makes him an accessory.

A friend of mine always refers to the Liberal Democrats as the "Dog-shooting Party", which is perhaps a little harsh, as not all members are like that.

Indeed it wasn't, but he was up to his neck in it. If this was sufficient for his memory to be reviled, that works for me.
