Thank you for reminding us of the Rumens obit thread. One of the best ever to appear on this forum.

Also thanks for the photo of the young Stewart Reuben.
I hope Stewart doesn't mind me saying so, but I always found it difficult to envisage him as a young man.
The photo is proof positive that I was wrong.

But you would pull him out of an identity parade instantly. Even after 60+ years.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

Did David Rumens really not play chess between 1982 and 2001, or is there another reason for this factoid?

All we can say for sure is that zero games are recorded during this interval on both chessgames.com and MegaBase 2020.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 8:57 pmDid David Rumens really not play chess between 1982 and 2001, or is there another reason for this factoid?

That does not mean that DER did not play.
English results are recorded for standard play and rapid play games on http://ecfgrading.org.uk/new/menu.php up to the grading period ending July 2004.
The most recent game was from the 2003 British Championship played against Jessie Gilbert.

Why you would say that a player has no games recorded in a database when you know from his grading record that he's been playing for some of that period is not obvious to me.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 8:57 pmDid David Rumens really not play chess between 1982 and 2001, or is there another reason for this factoid?

His last graded game was played on 6 August 2010 in the British Senior Championship.

In 1985, I played Rumens (briefly!) in the Civil Service League in a Government Chemists vs Dept of Health and Social Security match. When Inland Revenue played DHSS around that time, there was an amusing exchange (which I may have already reported elsewhere)
Rumens - Where are all the other Welsh patzers then?
Howard Williams - What is your qualification for DHSS? Employee or claimant?
