On-line Chess Auction

Post by John Townsend » Wed Jun 09, 2021 6:20 pm

Edward Winter's home page draws attention to an on-line chess auction later this month which will include a substantial number of books and periodicals from his own collection.

The catalogue, produced by a German auctioneer, Antiquariat A. Klittich - Pfankuch, is detailed, well illustrated, and is a delight to browse. Several (historical) items caught my eye, including a copy of J. Burt's The Bristol Chess Club, 1883 (Lot 915); W. Lewis's A selection of games at chess, played at the Westminster Chess Club, between Monsieur L. C. de la Bourdonnais and an English Amateur [McDonnell] ... 1835 (Lot 954); and, in the periodicals section, a number of issues of The Chess - Monthly, edited by L. Hoffer et al. (Lots 1296 to 1324). You will doubtless find your own lots of interest.

As well as books (which include rareties), there are also chess pieces, memorabilia, photographs, postcards and pictures.

This is quite worrying news. I really hope he is OK and just having a clear out.

Edit: Some of those chess sets are beautiful.
