Oh, I know that feeling!!JustinHorton wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:34 pmI would like to have seen the Hollis v Moiseyev game. I wonder if it is available.
I thought I saw the chance of tempting him to an incorrect sacrifice. Back came his move; he had indeed made the sacrifice and the envelope burnt a hole in my pocket during an important meeting (my mind was elsewhere). After a mere two days’ thought I sent my reply. The post between England and the USSR takes about a month for the return trip. Soon after posting my move, as I was walking from the Ashmolean Museum to Keble, just passing the front gate of St. John’s, the realisation of what I had overlooked hit me, and there followed an inexorable wait for the death blow which I now saw only too clearly.

Obliged.
Is the answer to this going to be that Hollis on playing 37...Kg7 intended 38 Qa7+ Kg8 but overlooked 39. Qd7 (as given in the BCN notes) which seems to cover everything?Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 3:00 pmIt is available. On its own it doesn't tell me much because, if Hollis saw the possibility of the sacrifice that was played, it's not obvious what he overlooked after that.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:34 pmI would like to have seen the Hollis v Moiseyev game. "Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

I should clarify that I lifted the game from Chessbase Correspondence Database 2020 and my chessbase account automagically adds BCN as the annotator.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 6:54 pmIs the answer to this going to be that Hollis on playing 37...Kg7 intended 38 Qa7+ Kg8 but overlooked 39.
