Remembering Horatio Caro (05-vii-1862 15-xii-1920)

Horatio Caro was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (and not many people know that!)

He defeated Lasker in 14(!) moves and played an amazing Marshall-esque style Queen sacrifice on g3. :D

I believe that at one time Caro was regarded as the strongest player in Berlin. As a historical curiosity, he once partnered Lasker in a consultation game - 1891 I think. They played the Caro Kann as Black. ( Yes, I have looked at far too many Lasker games recently 🤣👍)
