Presumably 1978 was the last one?
Not unless there was more than one event with the same name. I played in a Battle of Britain tournament in 1979.

Do we know roughly what the time of the year of the final was?

That makes scanning BCMs and CHESS a little easier looking for reports.

I think the idea was to hold it around the time of Battle of Britain Day so that's mid September.

Probably in the early 1970s, they should have modernised the format and held a monster Swiss at the nearest weekend to September 15th.

Presumably the early rounds were played in a similar way to the BCQC in that player's private residences were used.
