Watford Chess Club doesn't seem to have a detailed history but newspaper archives place it as existing in 1893 with a match against St Albans - the result was a 4-4 draw, hard-fought according to reports. St Albans itself was founded in 1878, its first match being against Luton that year.

I believe a history of Streatham and Brixton chess club is in preparation.
It has now been published: Movers and Takers - a chess history of Streatham & Brixton 1871-2021. 116pp. Illustrated. £12.50 + £2.50 p&p. Please PM me to order a copy.

I haven't read it yet, but it looks good...

A review will be published on British Chess News within the next few weeks, but it's at the bottom of a rather large pile at the moment.

Yes, it is good.

Meanwhile, don't forget to check out my articles on 1880s members of Twickenham Chess Club, also on British Chess News.
