Here is a bombshell for many of you. Harry was married, very late in his life. I didn't even find out until some time after his death.
An even bigger bombshell - he had a son, Oliver Golombek Judkins, born in 1992.

I didn't realise Harry was an arbiter aswell. Clearly a man of many talents.
The term "arbiter" did not enter common usage until 197? (someone please help me out).

The title until then was BCF Judge or FIDE Judge as appropriate.

It was not a bombshell for myself or RJ.

See https://britishchessnews.com/2020/01/07 ... 07-i-1995/ for details
Harry’s parents were Barnett (Berl) Golombek (Golabek) (1878-1943) and Emma Sendak (1883-1967).

Harry married his long time nurse, Noel Frances Judkins (1941 – 2011) in January 1988 and they had (born in 1992) one son : Oliver Golombek-Judkins who is a successful Somerset based veterinary surgeon.
These details are currently absent from HGs wikipedia entry.

So his wife became a mother at over the age of 50, that's pretty rare even in these IVF-assisted days.

Simon. Harry's ashes were scattered outside the Falaise Hall in Hastings. That is where the congress used to be held.
It is now held at Hortnye Park, There are two benches outside the venue, one commemorating Harry and the other his great friend W Ritson-Morry.

n.b. It is incorrect to hyphenate William Ritson Morry but it is common to see it hyphenated.

Note that the screws have been correctly aligned so that the slots are vertical. Hopefully, the reason is obvious to all and sundry.

Screw alignment: because this is the correct way to align one's knights on a chessboard?

Mike.

As you can see from GCs images, if you use the wrong screws then water does not drain from them and they corrrode. Using steel Philips headed screws outdoors is not advisabe.

It is well known that Rolls Royce and Bentley were meticulous in their screw alignment.

Well, you learn something new every day! Hopefully they are still being meticulous, but hopefully not using steel cross-head screws to hold their cars together.
