Youtube etc

Post by Kevin Thurlow » Wed Oct 14, 2026 9:38 am

I'm getting bombarded with videos on chess, so thought I'd put some here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=581b2Rq5n5Y Phillips and Drew 1984 (I was there applauding Karpov and Korchnoi's hand shake, until Stewart Reuben woke up and hushed everyone)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qh5-McYXkw Winnipeg 1967

https://www.youtube.com/@MeinasChess list of Meinaschess videos

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp9dVWMtAec Mastergame Byrne - Korchnoi

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuqM-v ... QiQ/videos Videos by Rob Clark (did the one above)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qiQBWIthq4&t=23s all about Andrei Sokolov

I haven't watched all these, so no idea how good they are...

There is a *lot* of chess stuff on YouTube, and needless to say it is of variable quality.

(though yes, the best is very good)

Indeed, and a lot of it is very bad. My feed seems to think I need to see videos on how to get my rating above 1000, which might turn out to be prescient before long.

I will have a look at some of Kevin’s links - I was also there for the (in)famous Karpov-Korchnoi game. I seem to remember applause at the resignation, but my memory might be playing tricks.

There is one which recommends the line 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 f5 . It contains analysis showing that 4. exf5 is bad for White notwithstanding its reversed Kings Gambit Accepted feel. It doesn't mention that White can treat it as a reversed Kings Gambit Declined by 4. d3 or perhaps best as a reversed Vienna with 4. d4 .

I've been looking into methods of not being shown AI generated videos. There is no obvious filter I can find probably due to a lack of useful Meta tags.

Any hints would be appreciated.

Aren't you getting into a sub-optimal ( for White ) line of the Latvian?

Karpov did not normally win brilliantly with Black; the game against Timman was an exception.
