Re-posting in its own thread for more visibility...

Tournaments organised by Chris Dunworth (1990s)

https://www.4ncl.co.uk/pre2010/dunworth.htm
After founding and launching the 4NCL at the Barbican in October 1993, organised over a dozen self-financing internationals in 1994 and 1995 (Café Baroque, St. Peter’s, Croydon etc…) initiated by a suggestion from Andrew Harley.
Is anyone able to give details of the 'over a dozen' events? I think some are on BritBase but not all. The "etc..." is not entirely helpful. How many of these were there?

(1) 1st Café Baroque International - Simpsons-in-the-Strand (12-20 February 1994)

(2) 2nd Café Baroque International - Cafe Baroque, London (9-13 March 1994)

(3) 3rd Café Baroque International - Café Baroque, London (30 June - 5 July 1994)

(4) 4th Café Baroque International - Café Baroque, London (18-22 November 1994)

(5) 5th Café Baroque International - St Peter's de Beauvoir Church, London (18-22 April 1995)

(6) 1st St Peters de Beauvoir International, St Peter's Church, Islington, London (December 1995 "just before Xmas")

(7) 2nd St Peters de Beauvoir International, St Peter's de Beauvoir Church (30 April - 14 May 1995)

If I am reading this right, the 3rd and 4th and 5th Café Baroque International events produced no norms, but the 1st one did (an IM norm for Ali Mortazavi) and the 2nd one also did (an IM norm for Aaron Summerscale). Also no norm for the '1st' St Peters de Beauvoir International (actually the second played at that venue?), but a norm in the 2nd one (Chris W. Baker (born 1958) who got his IM title in 1996 at the relatively old age of 37-38).

IM norm questions: Ali Mortazavi (born 1971) achieved the IM title in 1994, so was the IM norm in February 1994 his final IM norm? Or to put that another way, what were his other two IM norms? And when did he achieve a published rating over 2400? Same question for Aaron Summerscale (born 1969) whose IM title was also in 1994.

Date questions: What were the dates "just before Xmas" of the 1st St Peters de Beauvoir International in 1995?

Venue/tournament questions: What are the 'Croydon' tournaments mentioned in the original quote? Are these the 1st SCCU International in 1994 and the 2nd SCCU International in 1995? I know the second took place in Croydon, but this suggests that the original quote may not be quite right "over a dozen self-financing internationals in 1994 and 1995" - the 2nd SCCU International would be outside these dates, and this is still only nine events, not "over a dozen" - is the original quote wrong or are there others tournaments organised by Chris Dunworth that would fall under the "etc." in the original quote?

Possibly the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Tyneside Internationals (organised by Tim Wall) also fit under this 'chapter' of Internationals organised in 1994 and 1995:

https://www.saund.co.uk/britbase/pgn/19 ... iewer.html
Tim Wall regarding 3rd Tyneside International 1995 wrote:In my third foray into organising international events this year, a ten player all-play-all was held at the Chillingham Arms in Newcastle, proving yet again to be an excellent venue.

[...]

The two other unusual features were a massive score by the White pieces, beating Black by a thunderous 31½ - 13½, and the surprising performance of a certain co-winner who finished last at the 2nd Tyneside International in September, but this time more happily scored an IM norm with 7/9!

[...]

I'd like to thank several people [...] Chris Dunworth, for giving me the confidence to go ahead in the first place.

Chris D was based in Surrey for a while and tried to get involved in organization, but Surrey CCA were horrified that somebody young and dynamic might want to change things, so he cleared off and started the 4NCL etc. At one AGM, SCCA wanted a new committee meber so I suggested CD, and the nearest committee member audibly squawked in horror!
