Great stuff. It's actually the Beaumont Cup of course, not the Beaumont Trophy.

Thanks for that. I was using "trophy" in the generic sense but am grateful for the correction.

Really good, Richard. I knew he was "Captain", and that was about it. I'll keep an open mind on the accusations against him. On the dispute with Harmsworth, a newspaper magnate accused of dishonesty, shock horror!

Fascinating. A wee slip about halfway down.
Spink v Rossi, Casual game, Florence January 1898. We have the moves to see how the game ended but not the diagram.

Hi Richard,
They did not have a page for Beaumont at chessgames.com I have submitted his game v Edith Margaret Thomas to get his page set up. Whilst here, I'll ask on their behalf, can they use a credited picture of Beaumont from BCN.
Personally I'd use the one of him in the car with his chauffeur Walter Goldsack.
(what make is it, a Ford?)

I asked John Upham about the car, as it's a subject outside my sphere of knowledge. He's sure it's American and was going to do some further research.Geoff Chandler wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 11:14 amHi Richard,

The car photograph is wonderful, isn't it? It was submitted to ancestry.co.uk by a descendant of his brother. Posting photos on public trees puts them in the public domain so I guess it would be OK to use, but otherwise you could use the BCM 1901 photo.
