Candidates for CEO: suggestions please?
I suspect Chris Majer may be telephoning one or two persons this week to invite them to consider taking on the poisoned chalice.
Firstly, who do you think those candidates should be?
Secondly, who do you think CM will be telephoning?
Top of my list today is:
Roger Emerson

As 'Nobody' has been properly elected, I think that it should be allowed to complete its term of office.

Why would you think that responsibility rests with Chris Majer?John Upham wrote:I suspect Chris Majer may be telephoning one or two persons this week to invite them to consider taking on the poisoned chalice.
The governance committee is an advisory body and has no authority to appoint Board members.

The Chairman of the GC has demonstrated a desire to influence who is not CEO. He may also desire to influence who is CEO.Michael Flatt wrote: The governance committee is an advisory body and has no authority to appoint Board members.

My carer has advised against it.Mick Norris wrote: Do you not fancy the job yourself John?
I would need the blessing of the Chairman of the Governance Committee and I would hope that would not be forthcoming.
It was thoughtful of you to make the suggestion.

Let's face it, the love given by the chess community to holders of this office, plus the generous pay scale, makes the post very attractive.

Three more suggestions that have been communicated to me are:
1. David Eustace (Must be a top favourite)
2. Mike Gunn (I very much doubt it however).
3. David Welch (I believe DW has suggested himself to the board in years gone by)

Re: Candidates for CEO: suggestions please?
I do not think any director of the last board who is still on the current board would be suitable - even temporarily - that would smell too much like a plot.
In which case there are five people I think would do an outstanding job, though I'm aware I curse them with these words. They are, in no order:
Bill O Rourke
David Robertson
Claire Summerscale
Mike Truran
Malcolm Pein.
The first would be seen as too divisive, ditto the second - and they wouldn't want it.
The third has other things to do (shock), the fourth is probably too busy and the fifth has just been elected to a different post. If you could get all of them on the board -which you can't - then you might get some improvement in English Chess.

I disagree with one of Martin's nominations although I won't say which one. As for his fourth suggestion I for one would love him to run.
Martin - I don't suppose you fancy a second tilt at the job yourself? You clearly take a keen interest in ECF affairs and the ECF has moved on from the Gerry Walsh years.

Re: Candidates for CEO: suggestions please?
If Chris was not going to suggest himself he ought to go for Phil who if I'm correct got the 2nd highest votes.
Personally I found the whole election process a shambles, so hardly surprising the politicians, Sports Council, & others think along those lines.
Waste of our money too.
Throw in a West Ham season ticket & John Philpott may go for it. They are going very well atm.
