A snippet from the report on the most recent Board meeting.

The Board agreed to give 12 months’ notice that it will be closing the ECF adjudication service.

I can feel a tear or two welling-up as I read this shocking news.
Panel members ([7.] in the
Yearbook) can now look forward to well-earned breaks!
Tales of previous adjudication dramas would be most welcome here!

I didn't even know it existed. Was it like the pools panel? (whatever happened to that, btw?)

"What is the pools panel?"
Alex H will love this. One year I started comparing the Pools Panel's predicted results against the actual results when the games were eventually played. They didn't do very well, except they usually predicted just enough draws for an interesting pay out to be made, thus gaining good publicity for the Pools company. Obviously this was a coincidence.
On subject, I imagine that leagues still using adjudications have their own adjudicators, although that can lead to somebody adjudicating a game played by a club colleague.

Nowadays, aren't they mostly using Rybka, Fritz, Houdini etc? I would imagine the easily resolved ones anyway, where the match captains agree the result before reporting it.

And for the trivia question - what links the lack of smog and the pools panel?

I was aware of what the football pools are - I misinterpreted what Jonathan Bryant was saying and thought there was some sort of ECF Pools Panel!
Never mind...

Indeed. You win four homes, three aways and two draws. Well done!

You're right; he did.

I assume most of the adjudicators still in existence don't know what those things are.

Some would call the ECF Board a Fools Panel, but not a Pools Panel...
