ECF member benefits ChessMood

Post by David York » Thu Dec 14, 2023 9:05 pm

I signed up with ChessMood for a one month trial because of an ECF email:
Dear ECF member

Here’s an early Christmas present from the ECF!

The ECF has partnered with ChessMood, a chess educational chess platform with over 400 hours of top quality chess courses. As an ECF member, by clicking on the link below, you can get free access to all of their courses until 23rd December and improve your tactical skills, build opening repertoires, and improve your middlegame and endgame skills:
https://chessmood.com/gifts/england23

Thereafter, if you decide to continue improving with them you’ll get an additional 20% discount as an ECF member.
Here's a short introductory video: https://youtu.be/17ARy6Z2WsY

I’ve had a look at their courses, and as an experienced coach of many years’ standing I can confirm that it’s an extremely well thought-out chess product, with very well-structured learning modules and tests. And don’t just take it from me – in the words of one of my ECF Board colleagues, also an experienced coach, ‘ChessMood is good quality; I've used it myself. They have some good stuff for beginner/intermediate players as well.’

Enjoy!
Kind regards
Rob Willmoth
ECF Director of Membership

Of course I have been too busy to actually look through the website. Mind you that did not stop them sending me al least weekly emails.

Today I got this email from them. Is it just me that finds this in incredibly bad taste? My membership is not going to continue.

Hey ,

I was afraid to talk about this.
I’m still afraid.

But I drank lion’s milk today.

Many will not understand.
Many will laugh.

Hopefully, not you.

This is my biggest secret of productivity, high focus, and achievements.
I use this when I’m low.
When I need creativity. When I need to win.
When I need to perform my A-game.

Whenever I’m stuck, I do this.
I cheat.

I cheat at the GYM, at chess, I rob airlines.
And I do it E.V.E.R.Y D.A.Y.

LEGALLY!

For your growth and fun life,
Always honest with you,

You mean the references to cheating legally?

I haven't read the whole article, but he's not saying you should actually cheat. He says that to get better at something you should imagine you're someone who is very good at the activity, e.g. if you want to weight lift more than you than you think you can then imagine you're a weightlifter who could do it easily.

May i suggest testing the product. It is very good and you dont have to pay each time a new video appears.

No, I object to the bit where he insists:

'I cheat.

I cheat at the GYM, at chess, I rob airlines.
And I do it E.V.E.R.Y D.A.Y.'

I'm not going near something where the marketing deparment thinks this approach is OK.
I'm really glad I did not pass the offer on to others. Clearly, endorsing those who endorse cheating at chess is acceptable to the ECF.
