There's a lengthy ChessBase article on Adams covering this, amongst other things.

One surprising revelation - he once played in 2 tournaments at once, playing games in each tournament at the same time. The games were in the same building, but different rooms. The article doesn't say what the results of the games were, but he won both tournaments.

That is a fair point. And those ratings in 2001 are clearly not ELO... They look more like Clarke grades!

As far as I recall they were calculated using Elo methods, pretty much the same as the established ratings. They chopped off the final digit, rounding them to three figures. I believe that was to make them distinct from the regular ratings.

Thinking again, a work colleague was from Cornwall, and he said he played in the Cornish U18 (I think), which was won by Mickey Adams when he was very young, and my colleague gave the impression that Mickey won more than one event, and I just assumed they were at separate times (e.g. one in morning, one in afternoon).

I should apologise to Moussard, as the ill-advised king-walk was perfectly logical in the absence of the tactical blow that occurred in his game (against Shreyas Royal). The game has featured in the regular YouTube 'The Underdogs' podcast by Robert Ris here:

There are some additional tactics that may not have been apparent at the time people played through the game. Am even more impressed that Shreyas spotted them all.
