Re: London Chess Classic 2023
My guess is that Mickey was weary after playing tough games on five successive days and was content to go into the rest day on +2. Of course there must be a way to win, but had there been a simple one ( even by 2700 standards ) I'm sure he would have played it.

I believe that the game was drawn by repetition after 54 Ke2.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 1:58 pmWere the last few moves recorded on lichess not played?

According to the kindergarten Stockfish, Adams and Niemann are both in trouble. Not sure I believe that, might be a bit more worried about Royal and McShane.

I certainly wouldn't volunteer to defend either position with black but perfect defence might keep the balance.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 3:59 pmAccording to the kindergarten Stockfish, Adams and Niemann are both in trouble. Stroke of luck there, but a reminder of why Moussard should have been a 2700 player for years but isn't.

Adams certainly got lucky there, though I suppose it balances out his not getting a full point yesterday.

This felt like a point gained compared to a half lost but, from an English perspective, a welcome one.Matt Mackenzie wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 6:00 pmAdams certainly got lucky there, though I suppose it balances out his not getting a full point yesterday.

Thought it was going to be 5 decisive games but Shreyas looks likely to get an at-one-time unlikely draw.

I've just noticed this is in "ECF Matters", not sure why as there aren't many ECF members in it. I hope the organizers have apologised to Niemann for spelling his name wrongly in the overview.
The Shreyas ending looks tricky to me, plenty of opportunities for either player to foul it up.
