To the England Team Juniors
On behalf of the English Chess Federation, I am writing to congratulate each and every one of you for representing your country so well in the recent European Schools and World Cadets & Youth Championships for Rapid and Blitz in Rhodes Greece.
England came 2nd in the medals table with 14 medals, seven of which were gold. You were up against 331 players from 40 countries and did your parents and your Federation proud. We wish you the best of luck in all of your upcoming tournaments and look forward to watching your chess careers with great interest. The future of English chess is bright with such a talented group.

England achieved its best ever performance at the European Schools Championship which finished in Rhodes on Friday. England’s Zoe Veselow (Girls U9), Kushal Jakhria (U7) and Bodhana Sivanandan (Girls U7) all won gold medals at the Championships, which took place in Rhodes. A strong contingent of English players also included Jan Murawski (U11) who won bronze. You can find all the English players and their standings at https://chess-results.com/tnr630373.asp ... According to the report on the European Chess Union website, ‘The best teams/federations (combined results) were awarded with special prizes. Team of Turkey won 1st place, England 2nd place and Georgian team was third.’
Sarah Longson of UK Chess Challenge (UKCC) praised the whole group and added, ‘Three gold medals for ECF Academy students at European Schools in Rhodes! What an amazing day for junior chess in England. Many congratulations to Kushal, Bodhana and Zoe.’
Following on from the European Schools Championship, our juniors have enjoyed great success at the World Cadets & Youth Championships 2022 for Rapid and Blitz. Notable performances include gold medallists Bodhana Sivanandan (U8 girls rapid and blitz) Eugenia Karas (U14 girls rapid) &Kushal Jakhria (U8 Open blitz).
Congratulations go to the whole England team who came third to Poland in terms of overall medals but gained more golds: Poland achieved 11 medals including two golds, England gained 10 medals including four golds.
Finally, an important word of congratulations to to the winners, Ukraine, who poignantly topped the medal table with 14 medals including six golds.
